The South Oakland Food Depot

Madison Heights, MI 48071
Our Mission
To provide non-perishable food, household products and personal care items to households in need.
Our History
The South Oakland Food Depot ("Food Depot") was established in 2015 as a special work of the Oakland District of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Detroit. The Food Depot moved from a parish food pantry to the St. Vincent de Paul Detroit’s Madison Heights Thrift Store and started serving neighbors in need with weekly food distribution. The Food Depot has been in continuous operation since its opening, shutting down only briefly during the pandemic of 2020. In the early years, the Food Depot served an average of 65 to 70 households per month. Post-pandemic, however, we are seeing more than double that number every month.
We are 100% volunteer operated. We are supported by the generous financial support of local Conferences of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, and by local parishes and individuals that donate food and personal care items throughout the year.
